This is a roleplaying journal for

lawandorder_siu and has nothing to do with Susan Floyd, however the character Rachael McCarthy was written by me.

--Character's age: 35
--Their squad: Homicide
--Physical description: Tall, dark haired and with dark green eyes-has a slim build but is physically fit.

--Family/Educational background of character- Rachael is the eldest of two children born to Pete and Lisa McCarthy. They had little money as both her parents just managed to hold down regular jobs that paid enough to keep them well fed with a roof over their heads. Born and raised in New York, she's a true city girl but when she was old enough she began to travel to other places around the East Coast just to spend time away from home and her family. Up until that point, she'd lived a mostly sheltered life and she found that seeing things like that had opened her eyes. All through her school life she had just above average grades but excelled in Maths and physical sports. She just missed out on graduating top of her class to someone who rubbed it in her face. Rachael joined the NYPD when she was 22; deciding that she wanted to help enforce the law after witnessing two guys beat up an innocent woman in the street and leaving her for dead. Chasing those guys away had made her think about doing that as a career so she immediately signed up. After working in both Vice and Narcotics, she has decided she prefers working in Homicide and while she can work undercover successfully, she doesn't feel comfortable in that situation so both divisions were not memorable experiences for her. However that doesn't mean she won't work undercover, she just prefers not to unless the situation truly calls for it. Before going to the 2-7, Rachael worked Narcotics but she butted heads with her partner to the point where he nearly blew her cover. The case was resolved but it left her unsure about herself undercover.
Her kid brother, Mark (Marcus), left New York as soon as he was old enough to make his own way. Despite the fact he now lives in California, they still talk to each other and she maintains a close relationship with him. Her parents were both simple people with simple jobs. They used to eat Italian food every Monday night and she still carries on that tradition. A tragic car accident fourteen years ago killed both her parents; her father had been killed instantly whereas her mother died two weeks later while in ICU. She doesn't talk about that with anyone and she will never reveal that she spent two long weeks in the hospital waiting for good news without ever getting any. As of present time (2007) Rachael has just had her divorce finalised. She'd married Darius Weaving 9 years ago but a dispute over her inability to bear children eventually forced them apart. The reason Rachael can't have children is because when she was 18 she'd been in a biking accident and the damage to her was unfixable; Doctors had been forced to give her an hystrectomy. The biking had been one of her "new found" hobbies, after that incident she has stayed away from motorsports of all kinds. She now finds them to be unnecessary risks and won't hesitate in letting people know that.

--Personality--likes/dislikes-- Even though Rachael can't have children it doesn't mean she gets depressed about it or broody, she just finds that she just doesn't like children whereas her ex-husband did. Rachael doesn't like obnoxious men or people who think they are the greatest person in the world, and she dislikes being the victim of a practical joke and finds that many people take advantage of that. She will always love italian food, horse riding and travelling; all of which she'll complain about if she doesn't get to do it very often. Rachael has always loved to socialise with friends but is starting to find that she doesn't have that many friends to socialise with.

--Traits, Weaknesses, Quirks--Rachael is quiet and reserved until she gets together with some friends and then she can be bubbly, excited and a chatter box. She prefers to watch and observe in the background, taking everything in from the "outside" view. Rachael loves to try new things, so as a result she had given most hobbies a go (some of which have left her with scars); but all of them have been left unfinished because she gets bored with them quite easily especially if they turn out to be not as interesting as she had hoped. She has a high morale centre that she will, without reservation, preach to others when she feels they have overstepped their mark. Unfortunately for those around her she doesn't have a very good sense of humor unless she's drunk. Rachael takes most of the comments people make to heart until they explain to her that they were joking and even then she will not find it funny. Her brother has been trying to teach her to have one his whole life but to no avail. She is completely uninterested in serious relationships yet she can be jealous of those that have one.
Rachael has never really got along with any of her partners, this is because she can be difficult to work with and her partner(s) find she's too quiet until she disagrees with something and then she'll blow it up out of proportion. Most officers agree and say that it's her lack of humor that gets in the way.
